Mat advises on a broad range of employment law issues, with a particular focus on industrial relations and disputes regarding the termination of employment.

Mat is enthusiastic about providing practical and commercial solutions for employers navigating their rights and responsibilities within Australia’s heavily regulated employment environment.

Mat advises on enterprise agreement negotiations and disputes, award interpretation and application issues, employee misconduct and performance management, employment contracts, and redundancies and restructures for several small and medium sized employers across multiple industries including education, professional services, vehicle manufacturing, and community services.

Experience
  • Defending employers against potential employee-claims including:
    • unfair dismissal claims
    • general protections claims
    • bullying, discrimination, and sexual harassment claims
    • underpayment claims
  • Negotiating, varying, and terminating Enterprise Agreements
  • Drafting employment contracts, including the interpretation of Modern Award applications across different roles.
  • Providing strategic advice to employers around redundancies, restructures and agreed “separations” of employment
  • Post-employment restraint reviews and managing potential disputes

Prior to joining FCW Lawyers in 2021, Mat worked for another national commercial law firm defending small and medium sized employers in a range of employment disputes.
