A lawyer in our corporate and commercial team, Christian is passionate about working with his commercial clients, including start-ups and those in the technology space, and helps create opportunities for them to grow and develop.

Commercial law skills

With his broad commercial law experience, Christian works closely with Principal, Leisa Bayston, who works with clients across a range of commercial transactions. Christian enjoys working on commercial negotiations, drafting contracts, assisting with capital raises and preparing employee share option plans.

Possessing strong drafting skills, Christian is regularly entrusted to prepare contracts for business sales, share sales and general service contracts. Ensuring his clients are compliant with regulatory requirements is important and Christian ensures that corporate governance requirements such as ASIC registers and share transfer documentation are regularly updated.

Detailed insight into commercial operations

A recent three-month secondment with a national furniture company provided Christian with invaluable experience and understanding of a large commercial client’s operations. Working across all departments from marketing, HR, operations, and finance, Christian was regularly involved in contract negotiations and contract reviews and helped ensure the company’s interests were always protected.

Managing the client’s large IP portfolio during his secondment was of particular interest to Christian and deepened his understanding of IP law. With a large IP portfolio, including a substantial design base, the client relied on Christian to manage the patent drafting and design applications process. A highlight for Christian was providing updates to the company’s Executive Team on the company’s IP portfolio. These updates covered IP requiring renewal, IP submitted for registration and examination and IP infringements.

Expertise in the emerging blockchain area

Christian’s passion for the Blockchain sector combines his interests in new technology, IP law and his drive to be at the forefront of change. Driven by a fascination with the possibilities offered by blockchain technology, and his desire to make a difference for his clients, Christian is excited to help clients maximise their opportunities in this fast-moving sector. Christian closely monitors developments with blockchain technology and ensures his clients remain compliant with current Australian law.
