First JobKeeper Police Raids alleging rorts

5 June 2020

The Australian Federal Police raided the Australian Comfort Group’s company premises in Deer Park, executing a search warrant late Wednesday afternoon.

It is alleged that the company deferred April invoicing to become eligible for JobKeeper, potentially benefiting by up to $11M for the duration of JobKeeper Scheme.

The ATO published a practical guide (PG2020/4) around contrived and artificial arrangements. The risks for organisations who contrive methods to win the subsidy by manipulation of their cashflow is significant, including fines and other penalties.

The raid on the company included collection of laptops. If, as is suggested in the AFR this morning, there was exchanges of emails setting up the contrived scheme the evidence will be in black and white.
